Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic

ATTENTION:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scottish Rite Language Disorders and Dyslexia Program is in the process of adjusting how we can best evaluate your child. Historically, our program has provided extremely comprehensive evaluations addressing areas such as oral language, reading decoding and comprehension, memory and attention, written language, and spelling. Through the generosity of the NC Scottish Rite, our campus clinic testing library is extensive and well-stocked, though use of those tests is limited to a face-to face format. Current guidelines for social distancing make it difficult and even unsafe to provide such testing in our clinic. Our clinic is offering some treatment services via tele-health at this time and is in the process of reviewing how we can best offer assessment services in that same format. Our access to testing materials via the tele-health experience is extremely limited at this time for a variety of reasons. Very few of the tests used for a language and literacy evaluation are available for online use. Modifications to hard copy tests for use online copies could affect the validity of the results, which could lead to an ineffective or incorrect diagnosis.

We wish to address your child’s needs, but we must do so ethically and effectively. Please be patient as we work toward either reopening the face-to face testing program for the Language Disorders and Dyslexia Program or develop an assessment protocol we feel meets standards consistent with our professional guidelines on telepractice.
